Beech - Fagus Slivatica
Beech is the second most common hardwood in Sweden after birch. It grows across southern Sweden in Skåne, Blekinge and up into northern Småland. The wood’s appearance is whitish with hints of red or brown. Following steaming, the wood becomes more red in colour. Beech is a strong, middleweight wood that changes shape considerably as its moisture quota changes. Therefore, when it dries out, the risks of splits and deformation are great.
